The Paphos Jivers are a friendly group of Modern Jive dancers who meet at 7pm on Tuesdays at the main Church Hall in Chloraka Village (located in the main square in Chloraka).

The group welcomes new dancers to its lessons every Tuesday night, where we teach you the best moves and techniques to use when dancing with a partner. There is nothing formal about us, we are just out to enjoy dancing together, and will often organise groups to visit local music events.

For more information (especially for the rare nights when they are closed), please see their website: Paphos-Jivers.com

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Modern-Jive?

Modern jive is a partnered dance which has its roots in Lindy Hop and Salsa, but it is less complicated to learn and can be danced to a greater variety of music.

Lesson Price?

Just €3 a night for P3A members or €5 for visitors and other non-P3A members.

When do Beginners Start?

Beginners can start on any Tuesday. The Foundation Class is suitable for complete beginners, then, when the Intermediate class is on, the beginners are taken aside so that they can repeat the foundation moves that they have learnt with a dedicated experienced dancer.

Whilst we don’t put our videos on YouTube, all of the foundation moves that we teach can be found as tutorials on YouTube if you want to practice.

Danced Modern Jive Before?

Please join us, you will recognise the lesson format and the foundation moves, and will quickly fit in.

Our Lesson format?

We start with a ‘Foundation’ lesson, three or four foundation (or beginner) moves to show how to keep the beat and maintain contact with your partner. We always start in the handhold you will have when you reach the dance floor and each week we add two new moves and repeat one or two from the previous week. After a few weeks you will want to join the intermediate lesson, where those foundation moves are developed into smoother, more stylish moves that really do impress on the dance floor.

Clothing?

Wear suitable casual comfortable clothing. Unfortunately the hall does not have heating or cooling facilities so bear that in mind (It has not been a problem to date).

The floor is tiled, so bring shoes that allow you to spin on tiled floors.

No partner?

Don’t worry, during the classes we rotate partners as it is the easiest way to learn.  When we practice after the lesson you will learn the best way to ask others to dance, and when we go dancing there will usually be a crowd of us.

Directions?

How do I start?
